Bathurst Muses Reading, February 3!

January 29, 2013

The eight members of our writing group will host a reading for friends and family.  Readings will feature travel writing, novel excerpts, short stories, memoir and historical fiction,  featuring vivid characters who are as diverse as our members: a teenaged penpal, an aspiring Impressionist painter, middle-aged lottery winners, a thwarted birthday girl, an imaginary flight attendant, amateur Italian sleuths, an unlikely kleptomaniac and a discouraged welfare grandmother. Although the stories are unrelated, the characters are all striving for something—recognition, connection or simple comfort. They pursue their goals in settings as far-flung as a mid-air, Jet Airlines flight and an ancient Etruscan cemetery in tales that roam time and space from nineteenth century Paris to contemporary Toronto, from Nairobi and India to Grand Bend, Ontario.

The event will take place Sunday, February 3 with a reading for family and friends in a lounge overlooking an indoor tennis club. The space is charming and we hope the sound of bouncing balls and the lure of the Super Bowl will not distract our audience from our gripping, amusing and sometimes poignant tales.

If the quality of writing in this post is anything to go by, the reading will be spectacular. (If I say so ourselves)

Thank you, Muses, for a most enjoyable afternoon. I rushed home to read the collection, and found it every bit as entertaining and intriguing as the teasers, er, excerpts you gave us on Sunday. Congratulations.
